MegalifeThe luxury of less

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Who was the phone intended for?+

The phone was developed at the request of many American yeshivas in Eretz Yisrael who are struggling to teach and build a kesher with their bochurim, who are accustomed to using a variety of open devices — some more problematic than others. These yeshivas were looking for a solution that would provide the functionality the bochurim "need" while removing the distractions so they can learn Gemarah and enjoy it!

Does that mean this phone is recommended for everyone?+

No, of course not. The ideal is no phone at all — or at most, a fully kosher talk only device. Technology should be used only to the extent that it's truly needed. The whole idea is to use the least you need and give yourself the opportunity to enjoy the luxury of life.

Now that this phone is uncrackable, does that mean I don't have to worry about anything else?+

Not at all. There's more to worry about with phones than just inappropriate content. One of the biggest issues is distraction — or if you prefer the word — addiction. Phones interfere with your focus, your learning, your tefillah, and your life. This phone includes only essential utilities — nothing extra, nothing designed to pull you in. But even with that, every person must be mindful not to become dependent on or overly attached to any device. And of course, it goes without saying: no device, even voice-only kosher, should ever be brought into a beis medrash during learning or davening.

Now that you say your phone is uncrackable and even offer $500 — that's brave! Does that mean it really is uncrackable?+

The truth is — no. In technology, there's no such thing as impossible. But we try our best. We've built this phone from the ground up to be as tamper-proof as possible, with no shortcuts and no loopholes. We care about the end product — not just having a product. We're realistic, though. One day, someone may find a way around it — and when that happens, we want that person to come to us first, not spread it around. That's why we offer $500 to the first person who can demonstrate a real breach.

Who is the hechsher or rabbanim behind Megalife?+

The phone wasn't created by a single rav or organization. It was built by determined individuals who have spent over a decade working in both technology and chinuch. They understand the technical challenges and the educational needs — with one goal in mind: to support bochurim, not fight them. A high-quality, easy-to-use, properly locked device at a fair price can encourage more people to choose protected phones. Klal Yisrael is large and diverse, with many types and levels, each facing their own challenges. Our goal is to provide a tool that can help each person or institution meet their own standards and needs. Each mosad makes its own halachic and hashkafic decisions, just as it does in other areas of chinuch. Because many mechanchim are not familiar with all the technological details, we take the time to explain the inner workings of each app and system. This helps them make informed decisions — based not on assumptions or hearsay, but on real understanding. When serious questions come up, they are brought to ziknei hador. These gedolim hear the full picture — the background, challenges, and risks — and then offer their hadrachah, which we follow carefully.

Which apps are included on the device?+

MegaLife devices include their own approved app store, organized by clear categories such as Drive, Media, Banking, Email, and other approved utilities depending on the device level selected. The goal is not to offer every app available, but to provide a clean, carefully curated selection of apps that people actually need and that can work safely within the MegaLife system. For example, the Drive category may include approved navigation, transportation, parking, and car-service apps. The Banking category includes approved banking apps that have been reviewed and tested. Regional apps can also be included based on the countries you choose during setup. We are constantly adding more apps based on real customer requests. Before any app is added, it must be reviewed, approved, tested, and confirmed to work properly on the device. MegaLife also reserves the right to remove any app at any time, without prior notice, if a security, filter, or functionality issue arises.

Do you include every driving app, banking app, or weather app?+

No. MegaLife is not designed to be a fully customizable smartphone. It is a focused, minimalist device with a curated app store. Our approach is simple: if we have an approved app that safely does the job well, we do not add extra apps just for preference or convenience. More apps means more risk, more clutter, and more maintenance. For example, we may include Waze for navigation instead of Google Maps, because Google apps can open the door to additional risks. The same applies to weather, banking, media, and other categories. We choose apps based on safety, usefulness, and reliability — not just popularity.

I don't want to see apps for other countries. Will they clutter up the app store?+

No. During setup, you can choose which regional apps should appear in your MegaLife app store. For example, if you only need apps for Israel, you can select Israel, and apps for other countries will not show up. If you later travel to a different country, you can go into the MegaLife settings at any time and add or remove regions. Once you add a region, the approved apps for that region will become available in your app store.

Is it easy to choose which apps I want on my device?+

Yes. During setup, you can choose one or more approved categories. You may select a full category or select specific apps within that category. If you choose a full category, any new approved app later added to that category will automatically become available in your app store. If you only choose specific apps, then new apps added later to that category will not automatically appear.

Is this phone still in beta? What should I expect?+

MegaLife is no longer in the beta stage. However, we are always working to improve. Our goal is to provide a solid, high-quality kosher device that is properly locked, reliable, and enjoyable to use. Because this is a custom-built system, we regularly release updates based on user feedback — including making apps easier to use with the keypad, improving usability, adding approved apps, and making the system smoother overall. We welcome helpful suggestions through the MegaLife app on your phone, and we prioritize updates based on safety, demand, and what will benefit the most users.

Why do you say this isn't a smartphone? It looks like one. Isn't this just a smartphone in disguise?+

Great question. But let's ask back — what is a smartphone? Is it the touchscreen? The apps? The operating system? The look? What really defines a smartphone? Here's how we see it: A smartphone is a device built for endlessness — endless content, apps, distractions. Even "filtered smartphones" are still smartphones with some limits layered on top. But the core is still built for everything. This phone is different. It's not about blocking an open system — it's about building a minimal, purpose-driven phone from the ground up. It focuses on what you need and nothing more. Not how it looks, but what it does — and what it doesn't. Yes, we rely more and more on technology for banking, travel, verification, and daily needs. Voice-only doesn't work for everyone anymore. That's reality. But that doesn't mean we need to accept distraction and overload. A minimalist phone gives you just what's necessary to function — and no more. No browser. No filtered browser. No news feeds. Just clean tools to help you get through the day without pulling you in. It's not about hiding the tech. It's about redefining what a phone should be. A phone you can feel good about. A phone that gives you the luxury of less.
